Zack's On Windermere - A Sundowner Experience

Zack's On Windermere - A Sundowner Experience
Submitted by kliktrak on Monday, January 22, 2007 - 11:13

Well before heading out to catch Radar Complex and Habit To at Glass Magic Castle, I did my regular stop in at Zack's on Windermere Road [ex Naked on 9th Ave].

For those that haven't stopped by this venue yet, for either a sundowner to ease into the weekend, or to start the pre-clubbing shenanigans, Zack's is a great chilled spot for a Friday night, and the perfect warm up for a night out.

Dj M – lounge style... spinning sultry soundsDj M – lounge style... spinning sultry soundsThe mood is set by Lapis Lazuli, long time purveyors of all things progressive, host the decks, and spin an electic mix, from DJ Vasun's world-tribal-new-electronica sounds, through Dj M's loungey house grooves, Maurice Young's minimal funkiness, and DJ Bhudhu's progressive grooviness.

The mix of people is equally as eclectic, and refreshing to see in this cliquey sometimes ultra conservative and segregated town. Also there is no dress code for those that are wondering, and this probably helps the relaxed and laid back vibe.

I also dig this place, occasionally used to check out Esjay's open-mic night there which was quite fun. In my opinion the food is slightly bland at all branches of Zack's, but that's not the drawcard I guess. The Wilson's Wharf venue is also great.

yeah i must also make comment about the food at Zacks, stick to anything that is more "pub-style" [although everyone i know that has tried their version of a bunny-chow has been really sad] anything that sounds like haut cuisine generally avoid

one thing i can recommend [maybe its just the windemere branch that nails it] is the Cajun Chicken burger [chicken fillet, bacon, avo and cheese with fries] have never been disapointed and tastes incredible

fridays at zacks are cool with lapis lazuli. had the chilli nachos recently, and im very particular about nachos, getting quite upset when they use nacho chips from a bag. but i honestly had the best nachos ever at zacks, packed FULL of cheese and jalapenos. they make their own nacho chips as well. generous portions too!
