Wild At Heart

Wild At Heart
Submitted by shan on Tuesday, October 3, 2006 - 20:02

Seemed like every hipster and his long lost cousin turned up for this one. The only advertising I had heard for this gig was via Durbanscouts, but the word sure did spread like wildfire! Having high profile sponsors like Iron Fist, Miller and Camel coming to the party meant free MGD for the early part of the evening, and some scantily clad ciggie chicks peddling their wares with what was certainly the most inventive use of ammunition belts ever!

Most of us know Manna to be a beautiful oasis amongst the otherwise conventional and run-of-the-mill coffee shops around the Cowey/Manning Rd area. Saturday night saw it transformed into an exciting new (and hopefully future) venue for cutting edge events.

The simplistic and architecturally pleasing setting lent itself perfectly to the vibe of the balmy Spring evening - plenty of open outside space to mingle with friendly faces (old and new) amongst the fountains and leopard trees, and one kickass dance floor with the perfect amount of traction to get your groove on. Although the white painted walls inside made it felt pretty light and exposed, it meant you could at least send some kudos to the DJ's or spot the cutie on the other side of the room amongst the delicious monsters hanging from the ceiling!

As we all know, the more musically discerning Debbenites among us are literally chomping at the bit when we get the opportunity to be exposed to exciting new music, and man did we get to hear some really great stuff! Anyone who can manage to get the ‘too cool for school’ Indie rock kids shaking their skinny-ass booties all night long certainly accomplished something big!

Awesome job guys from MG Fresh and Lapse we heard some upbeat bouncy electro stuff ranging from Architecture in Helsinki to The Faint to the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s, with a bit-o-breaks from Kid Colt thrown in for good measure. At some point I also remember hearing some new wave and 80’s being blasted too.

The visuals projected on the screen courtesy of donotadjustyourset as well as some artists producing their interpretations of the Wild Things theme added a cool interactive element to the jol.

It all got a bit hazy towards the end... what with yours truly mixing far too many drinks in her system to be anywhere close to coherent, so I’ll end off by saying this was by far one of the best parties I’ve been to this year. Shot boys... December 2nd you say? Can’t wait.
