If you were bored of spending Friday nights feeding your cats and wanted to hit the town instead, would you prepare for your night by first trudging through a 12000 word gig guide, in order to find a something to do? Word-Of-Mouth thinks you will, and they believe it so strongly that they'll take time out to compile the 19 page abomination and send it to you every month.
There are seemingly hundreds of online and electronic gig guides doing the rounds these days, and in order to make sense of it all it's worth comparing a few of the different approaches side-by-side to see how they rack up. So here it is: Durban's finest events, as seen on the Internet.
Whatsup people?! This weekend we have some awesome festivals happening, it's Southern Cross on the banks of the Mooi River, with highlights such as Lark, Dan Patlansky and Dopescape. It's also White Mountain Folk Festival in the central Drakensburg, showcasing Spoonfeedas, Nibs van der Spuy and Karen Zoid amongst many others.
Seems like there's something for everyone this weekend. Check out the awesome duo Goldfish on Saturday night, head out to the midlands for a three day trance festival or catch some excellent bands playing at Burn.
Veeva Feeva this Saturday people! TheLappies has promised us he will be jamming with the band, so be there! On Friday night it's the second round of Burn The Bands, and let me tell you, last week it was packed with the local crowd and the atmosphere was awesome. Make a plan.
I highly recommend that everyone comes to see The Hellphones this Saturday night at Burn! They are an awesome band from Joburg that will rock your world! Don't believe me? Grab the MP3's from www.hellphones.co.za and give it a listen, their sound is simply amazing, kinda new age rock 'n roll indie. Think The Strokes, Kings Of Leon... but much, much better.
The gig guide is a little late this week, sorry peeps but better late than never! Please keep sending in all events and gigs that you’re aware of so we can get the word out! This email normally goes out on Thursdays to all members, so anytime before that is great.
So, another weekend is apon us! There are a couple of big events going down, so take note guys. There are DDC parties and some great bands playing, including Love Jones on Friday night and 16 Stitch on Saturday.
Obviously, there's Uprisings festival, Saturday at Gateway. There are seventeen massive acts, from the Hogs to the Rudis and our awesome Durban bands. But if this is not your thing, there are plenty more concerts going down in Durban this weekend.
Some people have asked me to set up a mailing list, so that there’s an easy way for everyone to get the latest gig guide and party info! I think it’s a great idea, so here’s the first letter for your jolling convenience. If you’ve got stuff to add, anything, even if it’s a big Warcraft LAN party (ya right), send it to me at admin@durbanscouts.za.net and I’ll put it on the list! We're not biased towards any scene, or band, or anyone really...
The Winston will be host to some great bands this Friday night, so make a plan to be there. The Sheep Down punks need no introduction, and neither do the fantastic City Bowl Mizers (yes the pamphlet is spelt wrong) who will be kicking Winston ass with their beach rock 'n roll tunes! This gig is seriously recommended, especially since Burn won't be opening and this will be your only dose of cool live music! Get there. If anyone has other events happening this weekend, leave a comment here so we can check it out...
There doesn't seem to be a whole lot going down this weekend, probably because everyone will be too busy watching movies at the festival! But if you do feel like a break, go check out these live acts...
