Burn Battle Of The Tributes 11-Feb

Burn Battle Of The Tributes 11-Feb
Submitted by capdog on Monday, February 13, 2006 - 11:37

On Saturday night we went to Burn for round 6 of the “Battle of the Tributes" competition. It was a classic night at the 'ol favorite, with temperatures in the high 30's and cheap shooters flowing like molasses off a duck's back.

IncubusIncubusIncubus kicked off the night to a crowded dance floor. They seemed to have the right skills, with the lead singer hitting the notes on target and the guitarist mimicking the scratching of Incubus' DJ. However, the overall performance lacked polish and it was obvious they hadn't practiced enough. The timing was out on a few occasions and the vocalist, although he definitely had the talent, wasn't getting the right consistency of sound. Sometimes he was too loud, and often he was drowned out by the instruments. A good effort, Incubus is incredibly difficult to do, so kudos to them for trying.

Blink 182Blink 182Blink-182 came on next and were awesome. The crowd was loving Yusuf, and everyone was shouting his name enthusiastically between songs! He vacated his usual spot behind the drums and instead grabbed a bass guitar and microphone for this tribute, pulling it off flawlessly. I was stoked that for once there wasn't a violent mosh pit in front of the stage and we could actually enjoy the tunes instead of having to dodge crazed punks. Brandon went really big and actually channeled the spirit of Travis Barker. Whoever drew his tattoos was bloody good. Nice one guys!

Brandon BarkerBrandon BarkerSlayer was apparently excellent, I don't listen to the music so I couldn't tell, but judging by the long-haired metal heads in front going off their tits, it was phenomenal.

Somehow the crowd vote was split at exactly 44 votes each for Blink and Slayer. Dave and Cerven couldn't make up their minds, so they decided to put both bands through to the next round! Which is cool, because non-compo Saturday nights at Burn are often a bit bland. The longer this competition carries on, the more good times are in store for everyone! Next week is Cake, System of a Down and Tool! See you all there...

Great site you guys have got here, very cool.

However, when you don't spell people's names correctly it isn't very cool.... anyway keep up the good work.

Hey, thanks for the kind words. I assume you're talking about Kervin (which should be Cerven), sorry about that, it's a tough one. I've edited the original post.
