Speaking of the World Cup, there's no going back now as the old soccer stadium was demolished recently! These pics are taken from the great skyscrapercity.com development forum, where mountains of great content on Durban goes unseen.
Soon we will be watching awesome events in the brand new Senzangakhona stadium!
Now wasn't that amazing to watch?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Although NMR was closed and not accessable, when the stadium came down I felt a tear, another part of old Durban to disappear forever, but make way for the new!!!
The Old Boys Round Me moaned beyond belief at the fact they had to go a different route to the Country Club, not the fact that the Stadium was actually coming down and this was the start to World Cup 2010
Can't Wait!! Yeah can't wait to have my view f@*$ed up! Would have been nice if we (us plebs) had some say in the winning design since there were five other enteries.... Ever wondered WHY we the tax payers never got to see the other enteries? Maybe the answer is the entire competition was a farce - long live democracy!!
U people always crawl out of the wood work...whoa is me...i should have a greater say...blah blah blah. If things were left up to everyone then F all wld ever happen. Your poor view, u dont own a view so cant control what is constructed in it. and frankly this stadium will be mor eof an asset to the city than most other developments. It will offer tourist facilities in the museums and skywalk. Transport facilities in the new train station, intermodal transport hub for the tram and centralised parking to remove cars from the beachfront, which is shortly to be permanently closed to traffic along marine parade.
Just cos something does not go ur way does not make it a farce. That is what democracy is.
dysan1 please drop this confrontational tone... you seem to be picking beef with everyone about everything. Chill out! I'm sure you would be bleak too if a stadium was built in front of your property.
How close is any apartment or house built to the stadium? not close at all.
There was already an existing stadium on the site, so how does that affect anything? There was always the prospect that the old stadium couldbe demolished and a new one built, its a sporting precinct. And surely this new stadium is much better on the eye that the hideous thing one had to look at before?
And if someone is so upset about this stadium, cos it will pinch but a tiny portion of their view, there are many other beautiful things to look at from their apartment/house. The ocean, the cbd and the beachfront. I seriously doubt that the stadium will kill all of those. and if all they viewed previously was the staduim, then this will be an improvement imo.
Before u attack me for saying i am hostile, consider all those issues. One cannot be consultative on every issue, for if that were to happen then nothing in this world would ever be done. does ur boss ask u for ur input in everything your company does? no, so why should the city have to do that?
Yes i do understand that this guy and some others may be upset with the stadium, just like many people are upset with the new airport, suncaost casino, the point waterfront, ushaka......the list goes on forever and a day. However the economic prosperity of the city and its development takes precidence, for at the end of the day the benefits from the cities economic fortunes will be felt in the increased bank balances of the residents of this fine city.
While u may say i am confrontational, i will say that i am merely bringing some reality to the sitution and believe that i am in no way hostile, but forthright
That's great, I don't want to debate the facts, just pointing out that telling someone they've crawled out the woodwork and then condescending them like that is definitely not cool... you may be an expert on Durban development but not everyone has their finger on the pulse of the decision making process.
Your second post would have been a much better response to the initial comment, don't you think?
Bru I am with you all the way Capdog. I have learnt my lesson and I think its time ol Dysan1 learns his. Your opinion is yours and to be quite frank, if its not constructive then shut the fuck up. I will leave it at that...
