Glen Bo Stand-Up Comedy

Glen Bo Stand-Up Comedy
Submitted by capdog on Sunday, November 12, 2006 - 21:02

Guys and girls, this is important, so listen up! Durban's comedy scene is practically non-existent, and aside from the odd once-off festival at Sibaya, it's hardly ever that comedians get a decent opportunity to entertain us. Well, Glen Bo is a South African comedian who has been highly successful working the U.K. scene for the past four years. He's down for a once-off show in Durbs, and we've got two free tickets to give away exclusive to durbanscouts.za.net!

Comedy is obviously an art that is very close to my heart, and I remember what a pleasure it was living in London and attending the many small clubs and live venues that showcased hundreds of world-class comedians every week. Cape Town has a vibrant comedy scene, and even Joburg (where they have very little to smile about) has been known to showcase some amazing talents. Not to say we don't have the talent here, it's just that there really isn't a dedicated venue to nurture the comedy business.

So onto the good stuff... Glen Bo will be doing a one-man show called “Why do we love Kurt Cobain and hate Jerry Springer?” at Twisted Lemon, Varsity College, Westville on the 1st December. Here's some of the press release:

Glen Bo the South African International stand-up comedian is débuting his solo show in preparation for the International Fringe Festival in Edinburgh next year. The 28 year old has been resident in the U.K for the last 4 years hacking away at the tough British comedy scene. In 2005 he promoted a show featuring 3 South African Stand-ups and himself at the Edinburgh Festival – it was the first independently produced show by a South African at the infamous Edinburgh Fringe. He has also performed at the East Coast Radio, Comedy Invasion shows in Durban.

The solo show this December is called: Why we love Kurt Cobain and hate Jerry Springer? The show billed as: Why an Icon for the MTV and generation X was so important? Why do we watch social decay on T.V like Jerry Springer? Last year Glen Bo dislocated his shoulder – by accident – during the Comedy Invasion at the Durban Playhouse, he is back in South Africa from London for his first R.S.A solo show. Hear the social commentary stand-up from one of South Africa's only 2 comedians ever to live and work the harsh, dark U.K comedy scene for the last 4 years.

The show is aimed at anyone who has an affinity for rock music, controversy or even gripes with ex's and midgets complaining its alternative comedy at it's best. The age restriction is 16.

The South African Times in London was quoted as saying: "He is a future comedy giant, pioneering the alternative scene for South Africa in the U.K, he has done more at the ago of 25 than most comedians do at 40."

Glen is giving away two comps... send an email to me with your name if you want to enter! The address is comedypromo@durbanscouts.za.net, winners will be informed by email and announced here.

Otherwise, tickets are R30 if you book in advance, and R40 at the door! For more info, send mail to gb@musotopia.com, or head over to myspace: www.myspace.com/comedianglenbo.
