Yip, really great. Good news that Panama is keen to host monthly events, but the place is still expensive, compared to say Willowvale Hotel. But, if a fancy schmancy place is what it takes to get the crowds, then so be it!

I hear you about the price, but at the end of the day entry is a mere R10.00 more than the Willowvale would be (and R20.00 more for an international - which is dirt cheap) ... and it DEFINATELY added comfort and credibility to the genre of music.
I realise that my chances of getting fat crowds to the TRIPHAZARD parties are much greater when presenting it to them in their own familiar,'clean' club environment, as opposed to trying to get the masses to drive through to Umbilo, park in an area they deem unsafe and sit on a piss-covered toilet seat.
I am now excited to 'up' the quality of these events, both with artists and venue as i think it will pay dividends.

Best part of all is i don't have to spend the entire day there carting in sound equipment and decking it out, as well as the HORRID, HORRID shlepp of unpacking the next day, hungover like something proper...

Thanks for your support 'n all ... certainly proved to be a thoroughly enjoyable night with a nice crowd - and yes, i WAS worried about the mess the papers made as well as the banger Friday night previous.
Also, my promo with flyers was severely halted coz every time i went out to do it the rain came down! And so hardly any flyers were done two weeks prior.
I played before Midi,playing a slower set than usual,more of a deep clubstyle break,pitched down to about 135bpm and then Ian played after Midi, playing electro house.
Was rad to see the house cats getting seriously into the beats - always a stoke to give 'em something they ain't discovered before...

Next gig there i think will be 3rd March(2 live sets), and thereafter 1st Sat of every month. End of April will be BILLY NASTY !

PS: give us a clue as to your identity ? Did you send me that sms the day prior to the party, about poor advertising blah blah etc etc ?

Ja it was me who sent you the text about the poor advertising, i was indeed wrong, although i did have to convince quite a few people that the jol was on saturday and not on friday! I really think that jol at panama may have started something, i mean if you can pull in crowds like that for each of the triphazard parties , then i guess hosting internationals could become a regular occurance in Durban.I feel the house scene may have finally gotten a bit tired in durbs, and peeps are ready for something new...
im going to e-mail Adam Freeland and see if he may be interested in coming here, cos when i spoke to him at global gathering last year he said he was well keen! otherwise Billy Nasty should be a BLAST,

Cool - glad it was as a success.

After rapping to you on the phone i re-read your sms and was actually a little pissed that you had assumed what you had without realising the extent of the work i had put in and the experience i've had with this over the years, being a one-man-band 'n all ... but being fresh from London i suppose you would expect more. Also, every time i went out to flyer the flippin' rain came down - like EVERY time two weeks prior to the party! So i was pissed and concerned..and i guess you made me think.

But ultimately it blew up and most importantly MIDI is going to return to the UK and spread GOOD GOOD stories about Durban to basically most of the heavyweights in the scene (he knows 'em all and they were waiting for him to return to get feedback on SA). He was just loving the food here and we took him for a shorebreak and beers at various spots, as well as a bit of an afterparty at mine after the gig - and he was simply STOKED with Durbs and the people. And after speaking to the dudes in Joburg and Cape Town it looks as though Durban's gig was the biggest success in terms of numbers & vibe !!!

So for shizzle, the quality of artists to be hosted by Triphazard is on the rise.

No dude, i was actually a little pissed off myself for sending you that text cos the party was such a phenominal success, i guess i just expected the worst cos when i left for the uk a few years back things where looking quite dismal on the breaks front.There where a few memorable parties at the late frequency, but other than that it was not great, and the amount of times i coaxed my friends down from the hills only to be heavily dissapointed by the bad turnout of these events is ridiculous, mainly i think due too bad advertising and as you said earlier, seedy venues....

And as for numbers in ol Durbs being bigger than those in C.t and Jhb, BIG UPS!! im sure that doesnt happen too often! Durbanites are finally becoming a bit more open minded, cos i think thats one thing in the past that has irritated me about this place!

As for London, Ive been coming and going for the past 5 years, had a blast and all but i decided to finally come back for good about a month back, my first proper jol here when i got back was that mr white umhlanga nyr's party, which was absolutely crap , payed R200 for ticket with V.I.P, and got greeted at the house floor (vip) with some multicoloured disco lights (really ghetto) and a 45 mins absolute minimum wait in the queue for drinks, in fact i spent my countdown in the queue.. waste of time it was, who is this mr white, i want my money back!

PS what other dj's are you wanting to come play here??

Shit that musta been the pits - parking in a rain-drenched queue waiting for a drink at countdown. Yeah i heard that jol was a bit of a washout.

Mine wasn't exactly the epitome of hedonistic behaviour ... organised a house party in Durban north, which was pretty rad coz mates were there and the spot was sweet, but i expected a lot more people (there were probably 30) and after hearing the next day about all these throbbing house parties everywhere else of 100 and so people, my arms and legs developed this sudden lack of enthusiasm to go back to the house and unpack lights and speakers.

Well there's no doubt that MIDI will be spreading the love for Durban to those who count. Regarding artists to bring out it's always a tough one because whoever it is, is unlikely to be known by the public here, so it comes down, as with MIDI to punting it hard.

I really want to get Jez from 'The Autobots' out, as well as Odissi & Quest, who play live together. Odissi will be quite something because she is rather attractive and only plays 'live' filthy breaks - which sounds like a dreamgirl to me!

But i would like to bring out someone a little more commercially viable like The Freestylers, or something similar - as costly as it may be it will surely attract a capacity crowd and prove worth it in the end.

Bigger & better things planned now for 2007.Every top artist i've asked has been overly keen to come to SA. People are very interested in this place...and they are willing (most of em) to play for up to a quarter of what they normally charge!
Billy Nasty at end of April, and expecting possibly Stanton Warriors & Hyper soon after. Krafty Kuts expected around August, and soon after General Midi returns ...

Yo Mike. Glad to hear the event was a banging success. Anyways, me and two other guys (including DJ Biomech, who used to play a bit of DnB in Durban at one time) are looking to organise what at the moment will be a once-off drum n bass party in Durban, cuz as I'm sure you know, Durban is now the-land-of-the-no-drumnbass. After numerous lengthy discussions on the SA drum 'n' bass forum (www.drumnbass.co.za, see the thread titled 'DRUM N BASS ON THE WEEKENDS IN JOZI), the 3 of us came to the conclusion that an event hosted by Triphazard at the Panama Room one night would probably be the best way to go. After seeing how well the General's gig went down, and now that the monthly breaks nite is getting going, I think that this year would be a great year for (re)introducing people in Durban to the sounds of the drums n da basses.

I'd like to state that none of us who want to organise this event are looking to make any money off of it - all we want to do is bring a massively awesome DnB night to Durban, so that we can spread the music we love in our home town that we all love.

Please let me know if you're interested in doing something like this. I'm quite confident that if it's professionally organised (which I'm sure it will be), we could probably twist the arm of one of the bigger CT DnB DJs to come up and play.
