There's one just past....hmm, can't remember. And the one that o's rave about is about three k's south of....damn, seems I've got amnes..what's it called again?
You have to find 'em yourself, I guess.
I bodyboard, and have been trying to teach my ex-Capetonian girlfriend to do the same...which has been fun, hilarious and at times life-threatening. Tried to educate her in the ways of shorebreak one day, took her to Beachwood...which was funny. The waves were merciless four-foot walls of boiling anger, heaving straight onto dry gravel.
Now you've gotta picture this - girl in bikini, not particularly agile in the water, getting sucked over the falls in a tangle of limbs, howling like a banshee when she comes up because she thinks she's going to die, bikini top strangling her while she tries to preserve her modesty as she shuffles outta the impact zone and away from the gleeful gaze of numerous shad fishermen. Yes, it's all a bit merciless of me but goddamn it, how in the name of all things blue and liquid is she ever going to conquer her fear of the ocean unless she goes through a couple of near-death experiences and survives to tell the tale? Precisly - that's how you acclimatise to the ocean, which is, after all, not a pond, not a stream, not a dam but is in fact a roiling boiling churning washing machine of joy. And once you figure out what not to do, you can get on with the business of enjoying yourself. Sounds simple. We're still doing lessons at Addington.
