The pertinent issues, as you've mentioned, are being addressed. On quiet nights they close the downstairs area, so it seems fuller. I don't find it too loud downstairs, I thought it was about the same as the old main bar... maybe I'm wrong on this.
I've been over and over in my mind the issue of Burn attracting posers, and eventually decided that it can't be a bad thing. Like you say, they'll have to get into the music and be converted (it does happen), because you can't fake it otherwise!
The alternative scene needs to expand, and since new rockers don't appear out of thin air, it's important to try swing popular opinion in favour of Burn, even if it attracts some idiots, they'll get sorted out soon enough. The important thing is that some of the people that come, will be cool. And then local bands will have bigger audiences.
